Any sports fan knows that it is not uncommon for some of your favorite players to switch teams a time or two. Typically, NFL super stars do not have many preferences in regards to the teams in which they’ll play for if presented with the right contract, and of course the right money. Well NFL running back DeAngelo Williams is the exception to this rule by stating that there are four NFL teams which is would not play for under any circumstances. The 34-year old NFL superstar expresses his desire to still play the great sport of football. However, he has some legitimate reasons as to why four NFL teams will never see his signature on the dotted line of a contract.
The first team Williams stated that he would never play for is the Cleveland Browns. His reasoning for omitting this team in his viable team options was very simple, “they don’t have a history of winning.” Williams goes on to say that, “I’m not sure about all of the championships they won before the Super Bowl was a Super Bowl, but in my lifetime I haven’t seen them have a winning season.” Ouch! That’s definitely a real but harsh fact, and truly legitimate reason for not wanting to be a part of a team. I mean let’s face it, in sports who wouldn’t want to be a winner? The second team that. Williams stated he would not play for is his former team, the Carolina Panthers. He revealed that, “the way they handled my exit – I had no problem getting fired, but there were things that went on there that I didn’t like and still don’t like to this day.” Although Williams did also add that any previous issues with the Panthers had been rectified with other players who had gone through similar incidents as he, he still would not be interested in returning.
The third team DeAngelo Williams named as a team that he would not play for are the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although Williams did recount fond memories of Fred Taylor and gave him major kudos for his abilities, he then candidly stated, “I can’t think of anything else positive about that particular organization outside of the fact that they have pools in the stadium.” So, sorry Jacksonville, it looks like Williams is not going to be a future running back for you either. Last on DeAngelo Williams short list of teams in which he will not play for is the Dallas Cowboys. However, unlike some of the other teams who clearly have not impressed Williams with their playing ability, his reasoning for not playing for the Cowboys boils down to his loyalty as a fan for the 49ers. Reflecting on his childhood, he shares, “I grew up and was raised as a 49ers fan. My fandom for the team I was raised supporting will not allow me to go to the Cowboys.” Additionally, DeAngelo Williams mentioned the Cowboys inability to deliver in the playoffs, which further added to his reasoning. Alternatively, DeAngelo Williams shared that he would welcome the opportunity to play for the New England Patriots. So, Pats it looks like the ball is in your court. However, with DeAngelo Williams skill, he will never lack opportunities, regardless of his omissions of a few teams and preferences.
